At WEF, looming food crisis said to be leading to protectionism

At the world economic forum, business leaders say the growing world food crisis is leading to protectionist moves by countries and could lead to a wider trade war.

Gita Gopinath, first deputy managing director at the IMF said that in Sub-Saharan Africa, 40% of their consumption is spent on food, and price rises have given rise to hoarding by governments.

According to her, over 20 countries have put restrictions on exports of food and the fertilizers, making things worse.
