Dangote Refinery Now Operates At 85% Capacity, To Reach Full Capacity In 30 Days, Says Management

Dangote refinery

The Dangote Oil Refinery, with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, is set to achieve full operation within the next 30 days.

According to Edwin Devakumar, the refinery’s head, the facility can reach 100 percent capacity in 30 days, Reuters reports.

The refinery—built by billionaire Aliko Dangote in Lagos—began processing crude into diesel, naphtha, and jet fuel in January last year, followed by petrol production in September.

However, it has encountered difficulties in securing an adequate supply of crude locally.

“We can go 100 percent in 30 days,” Devakumar confirmed, noting the refinery is currently running at 85% capacity.

Last year, due to difficulties in securing sufficient local supplies despite an agreement with the Nigerian government to purchase in naira, it turned to importing crude.

For the January-June period, it has requested 550,000 barrels per day from Nigerian oil producers, with the regulator cautioning that non-compliance could lead to the blocking of export permits.

Founder Aliko Dangote revealed expansion plans, saying, “We are looking at all the markets right now,” after sending jet fuel cargoes to Saudi Aramco.
