Flutterwave Joins IATA to Enable African Flight Payments in Local Currencies

Flutterwave, Africa’s leading payments technology company, has partnered with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to facilitate seamless travel to sub-Saharan Africa.

Through this integration, airlines worldwide can now process customer payments using various payment methods available on Flutterwave. These methods include cards, bank transfers, mobile money, and alternative payment modes.

The IATA Financial Gateway (IFG), an omnichannel payment orchestration and management platform dedicated to the airline industry, allows airlines to receive local payments from the African market through all their distribution channels.

This partnership offers a single global connection, eliminating the need for complex links to multiple payment service providers in Africa.

With the ability to accept local currencies and indigenous payment methods, global airlines can now provide seamless payment experiences for their African customers. Flutterwave’s collaboration with IATA aims to encourage more airlines to expand operations in Africa. It will boost the region’s anticipated 5% annual aviation growth.

Olugbenga “GB” Agboola, CEO and Founder of Flutterwave emphasised the importance of this partnership in supporting African aviation growth, stating, “We hope this encourages more global airlines to expand into Africa.”

Muhammad Albakri, IATA’s Senior VP of Financial Settlement and Distribution Services, welcomed Flutterwave’s participation. He stressed the availability of secure and innovative payment methods for airlines, travel resellers, and the African travelling public.
