Wema Bank Frees Naira Card Transactions For International Transactions

Wema Bank, one of Nigeria’s leading commercial banks, has recently announced the removal of the suspension on international transactions made with naira cards. This decision allows customers to once again conduct international transactions and make purchases globally.

The bank’s email to customers emphasised that they can now enjoy seamless transactions and use their Naira cards, such as Mastercard, ALAT Mastercard, and Visa, for international spending.

Previously, several commercial banks in Nigeria had prohibited the use of naira cards for international ATM cash withdrawals, web transactions, and payments at point-of-sale terminals abroad.

However, Wema Bank’s lifting of the embargo brings numerous benefits to its customers. They can now make international purchases, shop online at global stores, and buy from their favourite international brands.

To ensure responsible expense management and protect customers from potential fraudulent activities, Wema Bank has set a monthly spending limit of $500 for international transactions.

The bank highlighted that using the Naira card for payments in foreign currencies eliminates the need for currency conversion or carrying excessive cash, providing a hassle-free and secure way to shop and transact abroad.
