Tinubu Nominates Cardoso As CBN Governor

Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has approved the nomination of Olayemi Cardoso as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Cardoso’s Background and Nomination

Cardoso, a former banker and stockbroker, has been nominated for a five-year term as the CBN Governor. He previously served as the chairman of Citibank and as a Legacy commissioner for budget and economic planning.

Deputy Governors Nominations

Additionally, President Tinubu has approved the nomination of four new Deputy Governors of the Central Bank of Nigeria for five-year terms. These nominations are pending confirmation by the Nigerian Senate.

Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, has nominated Olayemi Cardoso, a former banker and stockbroker, as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Cardoso, known for his previous roles as Citibank chairman and Legacy commissioner for budget and economic planning, brings a wealth of experience to this vital position.

President Tinubu has also nominated four Deputy Governors for the CBN, pending Senate confirmation. These appointments are critical for the stability and growth of Nigeria’s economy.

Cardoso’s nomination raises questions about the CBN’s balance sheet, intervention loans, and the bank’s independence. Experts suggest that Cardoso’s extensive background in banking and economics positions him well to address these concerns and lead the CBN effectively.
